Carter G. Woodson was a scholar whose dedication to celebrating the historic contributions of Black people led to the establishment of Black History Month, marked every February since 1976.
Feb. 5-9, 2024, is recognized to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Thank you Ms. M. Cannon, Mrs. R. Juniors, you should have a received a letter about ACT WorkKeys. In order to be exempt from testing this Spring, you and your parent must sign the form and send it back ASAP. Parents, remember, class starts at 8:00 AM. If your child arrives after 8:00 AM, you must sign them in. They must be in their class at 8:00 AM and not arriving on campus at 8:00 AM.

Applications for the 2024-2025 school year are available on Washington County Early College High School's webpage. Just click the "Our School" tab and applications are located under Counselor's Corner. You may print the paper form and bring it completed to the Early College or you may submit the online application. You can also stop by the school and pick up an application packet. If submitting the online application, the online teacher recommendations must be completed also. Please let your teachers know to go to our webpage to access the online recommendation form. Applications will not be considered unless all components have been submitted. All Applications are due by March 15, 2024 by 3:00 PM. Please contact the school if you have any questions.

Good Morning Parents and Scholars. This is Principal Fields with an important announcement. Due to numerous power outages throughout the county, BCCC Scholars will not be attending Beaufort today. Also, broadcast classes at WCECHS have been cancelled today. If you are a driver, the decision to attend BCCC rests with you and your parents/guardians. Campus will open at 9:00 am.
All scholars should contact their instructors to let them know they will not be attending class.You are responsible for completing all work. Please be safe and stay warm.

All Washington County Schools will be closed today, January 10, 2024 due to wind damage and power outages throughout the county. All athletic events (games and practices) will be canceled.
WCS staff may use today as an optional work day with principal approval and if it is safe to travel. Due to power and water issues in Creswell, CES and WCECHS staff who are choosing to work can report to other buildings, including PES/WCMS, WCHS, or the Roper PD Building, to work for the day. Please communicate with your principals where you will be working.

As we continue to monitor the pending forecast which calls for heavy rain and high winds, Washington County Schools will release early on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Each of our schools will dismiss early at the following times: WCECHS - 12:00 pm, WCHS - 12:30 pm, WCMS - 12:00 pm, PES - 12:15 pm, and CES - 12:00 pm. All after school activities will be canceled and the scheduled school board meeting for tomorrow evening will be postponed until the following Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 6:00 pm.
Additionally, we are calling for a 2 hour delay on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, to assess conditions prior to the start of school. As always, safety first.

Happy New Year!! Our FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT TEAM along with our WCS Staff are very excited about the WCS District Spirit Week activities planned. To start off the New Year 2024, we will focus more on our theme and slogan, "LIFTING AS WE CLIMB". Beginning at 3:00 pm on January 4, 2024, Parents and Guardians from all five (5) schools will come inside to the WCMS Media center to receive a free School Supply Refresh Packet for your Scholar from their school's table. You will need to sign for each Scholar for our documentation. There is still time to sign up if you are interested in cheering for the teams or playing in the basketball games which will begin at 6:00 pm. The Staff will be wearing black shirts vs. the Students will be wearing white shirts. We are looking forward to our community coming together for fun, fellowship, light refreshments, the school supply packet and educational information from the district. See you all there!!

End of Course Exams will be administered beginning December 13, 2023, at Washington County High School and December 14, 2023, at Washington County Early College High School. Below are a few tips to help you prepare your child for their test.
1. Go to bed at a reasonable time. A good night’s sleep is essential to good thinking,
reading, and problem solving.
2. Eat a healthy, well-balanced breakfast every day. Eating high-protein foods
rather than sugary food can help students’ endurance and stamina.
3. Testing can be very stressful. Use relaxation strategies. Encourage your child to relax and do their best.
4. Avoid stressful situations and problems. Try to make your child’s morning pleasant. When concerns and problems are on a child’s mind, his or her school work and test scores may suffer.
5. Talk to your child. Please explain that you expect your child to stay focused throughout the school day, especially when testing.
6. Encourage your child to demonstrate polite, respectful behavior at school. Talking about positive ways to combat stress may also be helpful.
7. Be positive. Encourage your child with positive thoughts. Students will become more confident when they know that you believe they can succeed.
8. Arrive on time so the day begins calmly and pleasantly.
