Today, our Parent Development students 📚 visited Creswell Elementary School 🏫 to read 📖 to the kids in honor of Dr. Seuss Week, promoting literacy and joy in reading. They also assisted with classroom activities, engaging the young students in fun and educational tasks. After their meaningful contribution, they were treated to a lunch 🍽️ sponsored by two local businesses, one of which is Barnyard Betsy's, owned by Paulique Horton. She infused the lunch with a "Lunch and Learn" twist, leaving the students with a powerful message:
"Once you find your purpose, you will never be broke!" 💡💪

Under the guidance of SGM Curtis Arnold, this remarkable and youthful team has shown great promise for the future. They finished the season with an impressive 11-10 record and advanced to the second round of the State Playoffs.

Battalion Commander Baldwin you did an awesome job leading your Leadership Team and Cadets throughout this process. Good Afternoon. The Washington County High School Panthers Battalion JROTC will give away Prom Dresses again this year. The dresses will be on display on Thursday by the Principal's Office. High School (during lunch break and afterschool) and Middle School Students (afterschool) free to stop by and check them out. We are excited to honor and celebrate Coach Lamont Gilliam for his exceptional achievements as the 2023-24 Coach of the Year! Coach Gilliam's impressive basketball coaching record highlights his outstanding commitment and expertise. With a JV team record of 63-5, a Girls team record of 120-28, and a Boys Varsity team record of 110-19, culminating in a current season record of 20-3, his leadership on the basketball court is undeniable.
Coach Gilliam's excellence has not gone unnoticed, earning him three Coach of the Year titles as the Girls Varsity Head Coach and four as the Boys Varsity Head Coach. His strategic vision and dedication have led our teams to two appearances in the Eastern Regional Championship game, with the Lady Vikings proudly finishing as NC 1A State Championship runners-up.

Washington County Schools will host a DISTRICT ARTS NIGHT on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the WCMS/PES Gym in Roper, NC. The ART Work will be created by the scholars from each of our five schools. The ART Teachers from WCHS, WCMS, PES and CES have inspired the scholars to be creative with their unique masterpieces. WCECHS scholars are preparing ART WORK as well. Each of the performers are preparing their performance to showcase with our community. Washington County Alumni Power Couple Spotlight:
Robert Lee McNair Jr., a 1997 graduate of PHS, and Kalisha L. (Simpson) McNair, a 1998 graduate of PHS, both pursued higher education after high school. Robert attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation Administration in 2001 and a Master of Science Degree in Adult Education with a concentration in Higher Education in 2010. Kalisha began her educational journey at Fayetteville State University before transferring to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Birth-Kindergarten and pursued a Master of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a Concentration in Mathematics.
Currently, Robert serves as the Executive Director of the Student Center and Recreational Services at North Carolina A&T State University, bringing over 22 years of experience in higher education and recreation administration. He is recognized for his leadership excellence and has received prestigious awards such as the University Award for Excellence in Leadership and the ACUI Region III Smith-Steele Award for Professional Staff. Kalisha, on the other hand, has dedicated over 20 years to the Guilford County School system as an educator. She is known for her creativity, resourcefulness, and advocacy for students and educators in the district.

Celebrating Career and Technical Education (CTE)
The school hallway was filled with delicious aromas and mouth-watering dishes during the recent Food and Nutrition showcase for Career and Technical Education (CTE) week. Students from the Food and Nutrition I and II classes worked tirelessly to prepare authentic meals for their peers and staff to sample.
The menu for the showcase included a variety of tantalizing options, including jerked chicken, BBQ meatballs, sweet and tangy smokie sausage, and a live demonstration on how to make shish kebabs. These dishes not only provided a burst of flavor and excitement but also offered a glimpse into the rich history and cultural significance of each meal.
Jerked chicken, for example, traces its roots back to Jamaica, where indigenous Taino people developed a spicy method of cooking meat. BBQ meatballs have a long history in American cuisine, with variations found in regions across the country. The sweet and tangy smokie sausage showcased a blend of flavors and techniques from different parts of the world. The shish kebabs demonstrated the art of skewering and grilling meats and vegetables, a tradition in many Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cultures.
But beyond the delicious dishes, the Food and Nutrition showcase highlighted the importance of learning about proper nutrition and healthy eating habits in high school.
