🎉 Thank You for Making Our Opening Night a Success! 🎉 We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to all of our amazing fans for your overwhelming support during opening night! Your energy and enthusiasm made it a night to remember, and we are so grateful to have such passionate Panther Pride in our community. 🙌🏾💙 As with any new facility, we're experiencing a few growing pains as we make adjustments to improve everyone's experience. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we fine-tune things. To help keep things running smoothly, we kindly ask everyone to please follow the following guidelines: 🗑️ Trash Disposal – Please use the trash cans located throughout the gym to dispose of your trash. Let’s keep our new gym clean and beautiful! 🍽️ No Outside Food – We’ve noticed some spectators entering with food from local restaurants. Unfortunately, this is not allowed. Please enjoy the great options at our concession stand instead! 👕 Hoodies Off Heads – For safety and visibility reasons, hoodies should not be worn on heads inside the building. 🚶🏾‍♀️ No Loitering – Please avoid loitering in the halls. If you visit the concession stand, kindly return directly back into the gym to enjoy the game. We’re excited for an amazing season ahead, and we know that with your support and respect for the rules, we can make every event a success! Let’s continue to show that Panther Pride! 💪🏾🐾 Thank you again for being part of the Panther family! See you at the next game! 🏀💙 #PantherPride #GameOn #ThankYouFans

Panther Hallway Hero: Dajanique Sykes This month has been one to remember for our Panther family, as we proudly celebrate the achievements of Ms. Dajanique Sykes. A true trailblazer, Ms. Sykes has made history as the first guest speaker to ever speak at a graduation on our new campus, and she also recently passed her Praxis exam—a testament to her dedication and commitment to excellence in education. Ms. Sykes, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in African American, African, and Diaspora Studies, also holds a Certificate in Human Resource Management from Beaufort County Community College. Despite being a beginning teacher, she has already made an indelible impact on her students, team, and the Panther community. Her proudest accomplishments include being named Washington County's Beginning Teacher of the Year in 2024 and earning a nomination for the prestigious NCCATS 2025 Beginning Teacher of the Year Award. She has seamlessly transitioned from teaching 6th-grade math to 8th-grade social studies, demonstrating her adaptability and commitment to student success. Ms. Sykes embodies the spirit of being a Panther—resilient, determined, and collaborative. She finds joy in building meaningful connections with her students, fostering a love of learning, and empowering her scholars to believe in themselves. She says, "Being an educator is more than just teaching; it is caring for the students without a voice and amplifying the needs and concerns of all students." To Ms. Sykes, being part of the Panther community represents teamwork, integrity, and tenacity—values she demonstrates daily. Her message to her colleagues and students is a call to action: "Do not let fear and the chance of failure deter you from setting high expectations for yourself and others." Please join us in celebrating Ms. Sykes, an extraordinary educator, role model, and true Panther Hallway Hero!

Dear Parents/Guardians: The peak of the cold and flu season is upon us and WCS is beginning to see an increase in illness. More cases of colds, flu, strep throat, and the stomach flu have been reported. The custodians will begin spending additional time wiping desks and other hard surfaces. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if he/she experiences flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines: Consider keeping your student at home for an extra day of rest if he/she has any of the following: Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep) Headache Mild stomach ache Student must stay home for treatment and observation with the following symptoms: Fever (greater than 99.0 degrees by mouth) without taking medication Vomiting (one or more times) Diarrhea Chills, headache General malaise/feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches Congested (wet) or croupy cough Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose To help prevent the flu and other colds, talk about good hygiene habits with your student: Wash hands frequently with soap and water Do not touch the eyes, nose or mouth Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing (coughing or sneezing into their bent elbow, not their hands) Avoid close contact with people who are sick Colds are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. A child who has a fever must remain at home until “fever free with no medication” for a minimum of 24 hours. A child who has started antibiotics needs to be on medication for 24 hours before being able to return to school. Often, when a child awakes with vague complaints (the way colds and flu begin) it is wise to observe your child at home for an hour or two before deciding to send him/her to school. Your child should be physically able to participate in all school activities on return to school. Keeping a sick child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom. Thank you in advance for helping make the rest of this year at school as healthy as possible! Washington County Schools
