WCECHS WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS 9-5-2022

Monday, September 5th, is Labor Day, and WCECHS and BCCC will be closed in observance of this holiday.

This week Ms. Rasonabe will be registering students who signed up to take the ACT. Please watch your WCS email and attend your meeting on time.

This coming Saturday is the Roper Peanut festival, and the Early College will participate in the parade. Parents, if you can donate individually wrapped candy, that would greatly help this community outreach project. Please send your donations to the school via your student or give us a call, and we can arrange a pick-up.

October is just around the corner, meaning the NC State Fair is coming. The early college will collect canned food to deliver to the NC Food Bank. Students who wish to attend the trip this year must assist with the food drive and turn in at least five community service hours before October 1st.

CAPS is coming up soon. CAPS is our Collaborative academic planning and scheduling meetings. This is a critical time for every early college student. This is a time in which every student gets individual meetings with our entire student support services team. The first meeting is with Ms. Perry, followed by a session with Ms. Rasonabe. The student then transitions to their college counselors, Mr. Lewis and Mr. Lloyd, and finally, each student presents their plan to the principal for final approval. The entire process takes about an hour. We strongly encourage parents to attend with their children and provide guidance and support. It seems a bit early to plan for next semester, but I promise you it is not too early.  Student sign-up times will be posted this week to each student's email.

Finally, I am proud to announce that WCECHS has received the results from last year's testing and accountability standards. WCECHS tied for the top spot in the State for grade level proficiency for Math 1. Yes, you heard me correctly; no school in the State scored higher than WCECHS. In addition, our school posted the 3rd highest score in the entire NE region for grade level proficiency in English 2. The early college had a remarkable year last year. Our overall school grade was an I. We received an I because the early college did not test students in Biology last year. And finally, our school exceeded the expected growth for our students. Please join me in celebrating the success of our students and sharing appreciation for the world-class teachers and staff we have.

Great job, Wolves! I am looking forward to another fantastic year at the best little school in the State.
